My name is Nicole Dano, and I’m a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner. I work at a wellness center. A lot of our patients here are here because of addiction, substance abuse problems. They also have co-occurring mental health diagnoses as well.

Many of our patients here are here because of trauma. They’ve experienced a loss of a loved one, a death, family, member, friend, or personal trauma within themselves.

In order to treat their depression, they turn to alcohol or drug use. They have been tried on many different medications.

And, obviously, a lot of those haven’t worked for them. So I am unsure sometimes of which medication would work for that patient. Which one I should choose? It’s like a guessing game, and I don’t wanna waste time guessing. You know, I wanna build a good relationship, a trip, in relationship with my patient.

So I trust GeneSight to give me those results. I have had patients to say, I know that it wasn’t me, and all these different medications didn’t work for me. If I could see them functioning on that medication that I prescribed. You know, they’ve missed time for months being in this program and things not working for them. And just to see their happiness and that, they can function and get back to their normal lives.

This story is one clinician’s personal experience. Other experiences may vary.

As with all genetic tests, the GeneSight test results have limitations and do not constitute medical advice. The test results are designed to be just one part of a larger, complete patient assessment, which would include proper diagnosis and consideration of medical history, other medications being taken, family history, and other factors.

If you are a healthcare provider and interested in learning more about the GeneSight test, please contact us at 855.891.9415. If you are a patient, please talk with your doctor to see if the GeneSight test may be helpful.
