HomeProvider StoriesReal quick DNA cotton swab got results in less than a week Real quick DNA cotton swab got results in less than a week September 12, 2017 Joanna Johnson, PMHNP “Real quick DNA cotton swab got the results within less than a week.” Read the transcript Joanna: My name is Joanna Johnson and I’m a psychiatric nurse practitioner and I work in private practice here in Fargo. So Justin came to this clinic from another provider and Justin was on multiple medications, polypharmacy, and he came in and he was very symptomatic. Justin: I do have a history of struggling with mental health issues. I think it’s quite common, much more commonplace than a lot of people would even imagine, so I wanted to make sure that the medications that I was taking or would potentially take are the most appropriate for my body and mind. She took a real quick DNA cotton swab. I got the results within I think less than a week. When we reviewed the results it was very enlightening. Joanna: So we got his GeneSight testing report back and he was a poor metabolizer. Justin: I have a very specific and rare profile and a lot of the medication was in the red zone. You know, over the last year I’ve just seen more stability not as many side effects, natural things like eating, appetite, sleep have all been much more well-regulated and it’s been a very positive experience. Joanna: His life has changed completely. He no longer has the symptoms that he came in with and he is functioning at a much higher level in his personal and professional life. Justin: I do believe that just my ability to be more present when my children are with me because of those natural things like being more well-rested and being able to focus better when I’m with my children. It has really made a positive impact in our relationship together.
