I wanted to get the GeneSight test done for my daughter because we don’t necessarily see everything by just looking at somebody. The GeneSight test shows us a little bit more about their genes, things that we can’t really see. And by having that information, the providers were able to make decisions in regards to her medications. Understanding that better and also validates some of the reasons that they were struggling in the past. My name is Ilse Soto. I’m a medical assistant and I’m the nursing staff in the clinic.

My daughter, who I adopted at a young age, was struggling with depression and trauma. She had a provider in a different clinic. She was on multiple medications and they wanted to add a fourth medication. So I said, well, why don’t we try GeneSight? I knew that GeneSight was gonna be really helpful because I had already seen a lot of patients benefitting one way or another, but the provider she was seeing at that time was not familiar, I still was able to GeneSight at this clinic and we were able to take her off the medications and get her on some that will help.

And right now she’s not taking any medication. She has been able to overcome all the traumas and depression she was dealing with at that time. Now she’s sixteen and she’s looking forward to being an adult and meeting some goals. When I saw the results on GeneSight for my daughter and kind of talked to her a little more about it, it was really comforting and I feel relief that we were going in the right direction.

I will definitely encourage parents to pay attention because if we don’t, we’re gonna think, oh, he just wants to get attention or oh, it’s just a troublemaker.

It’s not just that. There’s something else going on behind it and nobody else is gonna be able to see it if you don’t pay attention. I feel very blessed for having the experience I had to be able to help her.

And right now, I just gotta keep encouraging her to keep going and not give up.

This story is one patient’s personal experience. Other patients may not have the same experience or outcome. Do not make any changes to your current medications or dosing without consulting your healthcare provider.

The GeneSight test must be ordered by and used only in consultation with a healthcare provider who can prescribe medications. As with all genetic tests, the GeneSight test results have limitations and do not constitute medical advice. The test results are designed to be just one part of a larger, complete patient assessment, which would include proper diagnosis and consideration of your medical history, other medications you may be taking, your family history, and other factors.
