When it comes to shifting our state of mind, practicing gratitude is a very powerful (and practical!) tool. The practice itself is not complicated, either.
It starts by noticing the sweet little things that happen during the course of a day: for example, a stranger holding the elevator for you, or the hummingbird lingering outside your bedroom window in the morning.
This is your challenge today, and every day if you choose. Simply slow down enough to notice good things in your environment, and appreciate them.
Note your appreciation in your journal, or express it out loud, or both. Even on the hardest days, practicing gratitude strengthens your ability to regularly notice the good, and the benefits are great: research has linked gratitude with strengthening your immune system and improving sleep patterns, feeling optimistic and experiencing more joy and pleasure, being more helpful and generous, and feeling less lonely and isolated. 🙏🏿
