I have been treated on and off for depression since I was sixteen. I have been through multiple trials of anti-depression medications. The last medication I tried made my condition worse.
After my last medication failure I sought out a new psychiatrist who recommended I try the GeneSight test. I didn’t know what to expect, but getting the test was actually very easy. The nurse swabbed my cheek, and within two weeks I had the report. In the report there was only one medication in the green category and it was one I had never tried. However both of the medications I had recently tried and experienced side effect from were in the red category of the test results. It was telling to see all of the medications in the red category that I had tried and which had caused me to struggle.
Thanks to the GeneSight test my doctor has put me on a medication that works for me. I am motivated and my outlook on life is positive. I feel I have control and no longer fixate on things that bothered me before. I encourage anyone who has struggled or has yet to find a medication that works to take the test.
