My name is Sami and I’m talking to you because I believe in the GeneSight testing.

My hobby right now is therapy dogs. We visit schools, libraries, hospitals, hospice, and try to make a difference for other people who are suffering from an illness or not doing very well.

I was depressed, I had anxiety. I was suffering from PTSD. I had a short temper. I was not sleeping at all. I was having nightmares. I wasn’t eating. I knew something was wrong. I knew I wasn’t myself.

I went to my family doctor that I had had for twenty years. She would give me medication. It didn’t work. She would tell me to stay on it 3 months. It didn’t work. She would give me another medication that I could not afford. Then she would give me another medication that I had terrible side effects. I just couldn’t handle it anymore.

I read in the newspaper about GeneSight testing and I asked my doctor to give me that. And on numerous occasions she rejected giving it to me and gave me all the excuses in the world. “Your insurance won’t pay for it.” “You have to see a psychiatrist first.”

I made the appointment to see my new doctor and when I saw my new doctor, he told me that the girl would come in, do a swab on my cheek, to do the GeneSight testing and that he would be in touch with me within three days as to what drug he would be able to give me to help me. And he did.

Once I started on the correct medication, within one week I was sleeping; I was waking up great; I was able to function; I was happy.

Because I got my treatment, I rescued Oreo, and Oreo was the catalyst for helping me be my own advocate to get better. I am functioning better. I’m a better person. I do feel independent.

I’m functioning at a level that I haven’t in a long time. And I am able to do things that I wasn’t able to do before.

This story is one patient’s personal experience. Other patients may not have the same experience or outcome. Do not make any changes to your current medications or dosing without consulting your healthcare provider.

The GeneSight test must be ordered by and used only in consultation with a healthcare provider who can prescribe medications. As with all genetic tests, the GeneSight test results have limitations and do not constitute medical advice. The test results are designed to be just one part of a larger, complete patient assessment, which would include proper diagnosis and consideration of your medical history, other medications you may be taking, your family history, and other factors.

If you are a healthcare provider and interested in learning more about the GeneSight test, please contact us at 855.891.9415. If you are a patient, please talk with your doctor to see if the GeneSight test may be helpful.
