December 3, 2024 Natasha Giles, Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Read the transcript I look at mental health as any other medical diagnosis. So just like you would get treatment for diabetes, the same you should get treatment for major depression. My name is Natasha Giles. I’m a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner. I practice in Atlanta, Georgia. When medications repeatedly fail a patient, they feel hopeless. They feel as if they will continue to suffer with their mental illness. The GeneSight report has helped me in my practice by allowing me to have insight on how my patient breaks down medications. By seeing a medication that falls into the red category where a patient may have more adverse side effects, I will try to not necessarily avoid it, but I will know how to prescribe it in a more effective way so that it could be more effective to my patient. So while we’re waiting for that six to eight week process, my patient will have a better response. It builds a rapport with my patient because now they know that they can trust me as their provider in treating them because now they have improvement in their symptoms and they feel more hopeful in the process of their treatment.
