What is “The Talk” you want to have about mental health?

Getting the GeneSight test

A registered clinician can order the GeneSight test for you. Then, you’ll take a simple cheek swab at your clinician’s office or at home, after which your clinician receives results in about two days to review with you.

Understanding your mental health

Depression and other mental health conditions can happen to anyone, and experiencing symptoms doesn’t mean you’ve failed. Talking to your clinician is the important first step towards mental wellness.

Learning about mental health treatment and genetic testing

Your genes can contain important information for your clinician to consider when prescribing certain medications. The GeneSight test reveals those insights using a simple cheek swab, so your clinician can personalize your mental health treatment.

If you’re experiencing challenges with your mental health, you are not alone

About five years ago, I went through a very traumatic experience in my life that resulted in a very acute case of depression, and I just couldn’t get out of bed. No matter how hard I tried—for the following three years I went to different psychiatrists. I knew that there had to be a better life out there for me, and I was absolutely determined to go find that for me.

Then, my nurse practitioner told me about the GeneSight test. After taking the test, the nurse practitioner prescribed a new medication that helped me. Within seven days I was a completely different person. It was remarkable. I could see the possibility of a future with happiness.

Lisa knew she couldn't push through symptoms of depression on her own so she spoke to her clinician, who recommended medication. At first, Lisa was wary of potential side effects from an anti-depressant. Her clinician ordered the GeneSight test to help inform the decision on what medication to prescribe.

Depression felt like an emptiness for me. It was a void. I'd push it away and get busy, focus in on work. I had too much going on to have to try to go through [medication side effects]. We were able to work out a great plan, and I'm good.

The GeneSight test: A pivotal tool to reveal genetic insights to help your clinician make medication decisions

Based on your DNA, GeneSight results show your clinician whether medications may:

  • Be less likely to work for you
  • Require changes in the dosage
  • Have an increased risk of side effects

By revealing this key information, GeneSight results may help your clinician reduce the number of mental health prescriptions you have to try before finding treatment success.
