I have been dealing with depression for over forty years. I have tried lots of medications but at times I felt like giving up on finding a medication that worked for me. Trying to find the one medication that will help you can be a scary when you take one that makes you feel worse. I attended a medical conference where an Myriad Neuroscience representative told me about the GeneSight test. I felt like this test could help me in my struggle with depression.
After doing my own research about the GeneSight test I decided to give it a try. I had my cheeks swabbed by my doctor for the test. The results we received shortly after were very telling. My doctor and I discovered many of the medications I have tried were listed in the red category of the GeneSight test. We also found out that the medication I was taking at the time of the GeneSight test was listed in the yellow category of my test results. Based on the results my doctor then switched me to a medication listed in the green category of the GeneSight test report.
After switching to a new medication I feel much better. Knowing there are better options for treatment of my depression has given me more confidence. I have a grandson with anxiety who had a bad experience with medications years ago and I feel that this test will help him with his treatment. It’s such a great tool that can assist doctors in helping their patients. I think the GeneSight test is amazing and everyone should be tested.
