Had our first family vacation in five years

My daughter has Williams Syndrome, so she has faced many challenges. She understands she is different and this has caused depression. My daughter’s doctors have been prescribing, changing dosages and taking away medications for the past seven years. Each time she went off a medication, she was ill and agitated. Her neurologist called me and suggested GeneSight testing because the doctor was worried about my daughter. This involved a cheek swab that took less than two minutes. We had the results in no time. We learned my daughter has difficulty metabolizing most medications but she should be able to tolerate one of them. It was in the green category. By day four, everyone noticed positive changes with her. We recently returned from our first family vacation in five years. My daughters were taking “selfies”, something they haven’t done in years. My daughter usually resorts to using a wheelchair when away from home, due to the physical challenges with Williams Syndrome. While on vacation, she did not ask for the chair one time, as she was busy participating in family activity. Friends and family are commenting on the changes and how wonderful my daughter looks. The family is back to enjoying family dinners again.

This story is one patient’s personal experience. Other patients may not have the same experience or outcome. Do not make any changes to your current medications or dosing without consulting your healthcare provider.

The GeneSight test must be ordered by and used only in consultation with a healthcare provider who can prescribe medications. As with all genetic tests, the GeneSight test results have limitations and do not constitute medical advice. The test results are designed to be just one part of a larger, complete patient assessment, which would include proper diagnosis and consideration of your medical history, other medications you may be taking, your family history, and other factors.

If you are a healthcare provider and interested in learning more about the GeneSight test, please contact us at 855.891.9415. If you are a patient, please talk with your doctor to see if the GeneSight test may be helpful.
