Mental Health Awareness Month Message from Our President

Photo of Mark Verratti, president of Myriad Neuroscience, accompanying his message about depression and Mental Health Awareness MonthThis year is unlike any we have ever experienced. Even when we have returned to some semblance of normalcy, nothing will be the same.

At the same time, we are entering a season with many observances that underscore the importance of mental health:

  • May is Mental Health Month, including Mental Health Awareness week, and Women’s Health Month
  • June is Pride Month and Men’s Health Month
  • July is Minority Mental Health Month
  • September has National Suicide Prevention Week (Sept. 6-12) and World Suicide Prevention Day (Sept. 10)

As the weeks have gone by, I have been thinking more and more about how isolation, distancing and loneliness have made mental health issues more challenging – and more widespread.

All of us at Myriad Neuroscience – the makers of the GeneSight® test – are more committed than ever to addressing the issues of mental health, including depression and the stigma associated with it, because we care.

For us, this is more than a job, it is a calling.

We work every day to help doctors access genetic insights that can help them help their patients.

That’s why, during this unprecedented time, when mental health is more important than ever, we are showing you the human side of our GeneSight team. Over the coming months, we will be sharing thoughts of encouragement and bits of wisdom from our team members. Look for the “GeneSight Cares” theme for more information.

We are kicking off this campaign with a blog post and a video sharing whatour employees would say to someone who is struggling with depression. I hope you are as moved as I was by their compassion and thoughtfulness for people who may be suffering.

If you have any suggestions for topics you’d like us to cover, please send us a message on one of our social media properties.

We are all weathering this storm together, but we are all in different boats. If you need help, please don’t hesitate to ask. In the meantime, we’re here and GeneSight Cares.

Our articles are for informational purposes only and are reviewed by our Medical Information team, which includes PharmDs, MDs, and PhDs. Do not make any changes to your current medications or dosing without consulting your healthcare provider.

The GeneSight test must be ordered by and used only in consultation with a healthcare provider who can prescribe medications. As with all genetic tests, the GeneSight test results have limitations and do not constitute medical advice. The test results are designed to be just one part of a larger, complete patient assessment, which would include proper diagnosis and consideration of your medical history, other medications you may be taking, your family history, and other factors.

If you are a healthcare provider and interested in learning more about the GeneSight test, please contact us at 855.891.9415. If you are a patient, please talk with your doctor to see if the GeneSight test may be helpful.
